Head & Neck Health

Dr. Shelley Jaquish and Dr. Timothy Dunlevy medically and surgically treat a variety of Head, Neck and Throat disorders.

Head & Neck Masses

A lump in the neck most often represents a benign (noncancerous) lymph node caused by inflammation or infection. Types of growths, which are usually harmless, include: Lipoma, a smooth, rubbery, dome-shaped lump that is easily movable under the skin. Cyst, a sac of fluid and debris that sometimes hurts.

Any unresolving neck mass needs to be evaluated for more serious conditions, such as cancer. Cancers of the head and neck are frequently associated with smoking and alcohol use. Early diagnosis and evaluation is important to maximize treatment options and a positive outcome.

Thyroid Disorders

The thyroid gland, located in the neck just below the Adam's apple, makes a hormone that regulates the body’s metabolism. A thyroid nodule is an abnormal growth on the thyroid gland. A goiter is an enlarged thyroid gland. All lumps in the thyroid gland require a thorough head and neck examination, and may required medication and surgical intervention.

Voice Disorders

Many conditions can cause voice disorders or hoarseness. Abuse or overuse of the voice can cause nodules or bumps on the vocal cords. Chronic acid reflux or thyroid disorders can cause cysts, polyps, or chronic cough. A thorough head and neck examination is needed to check for benign (noncancerous), or malignant (cancer) vocal cord masses.
